MANDATORY Odd-Even Lawn Watering, Morning and Evening Hours Only

Effective Friday evening, August 10, Cheney residents, businesses, and apartments may resume watering lawns on a mandatory odd-even schedule, but only during morning and evening hours. The mandatory lawn watering shutdown on August 8 was necessary to replenish the city’s five reservoirs, which had been reduced to critically low levels.

Mandatory Odd/Even Watering Schedule: Addresses ending in an odd number may water on odd calendar dates, and addresses ending in an even number may water on even calendar dates. If your automatic sprinkler timer does not have an odd/even program, schedule your usage to every other day or 3-4 days per week. This includes all residential, commercial, and apartment properties.
Lawn Watering Times: Watering times are 5-10 a.m. OR 7-11 p.m.
Amount of Water: Restrict the amount of time you run your lawn sprinklers.
Gardens and Flowers: Watering of gardens and flowers is approved, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Use a soaker hose, drip system, or water by hand. Apply mulch.

Please use water wisely.

MANDATORY LAWN WATERING SHUTDOWN

Effective immediately and at least until Monday, August 13, the City of Cheney is enacting a MANDATORY LAWN WATERING SHUTDOWN for residents and businesses. This lawn watering shutdown is necessary to replenish our reservoirs. The City's water reservoirs have been reduced to critically low levels, 13 feet and dropping at the time of this writing. Reservoirs are full at 29 feet. Residential and commercial consumption of irrigation water has increased with hotter weather, resulting in our reservoir levels dropping dangerously low. The lawn watering shutdown will help protect our fire flow requirements and the integrity of the system. If we were to have a significant structure or brush fire in town, we would drain our reservoirs very quickly. Vegetable gardens and flowers may be watered, but not during the day. Warnings are being issued to those homes and businesses that are watering lawns, followed by citations to those not complying. The wells are operating at capacity, but simply cannot keep up with the increased lawn watering. If everyone complies with the lawn watering shutdown through the weekend, we may be able to allow restricted, limited lawn irrigation next week. Please check our Home page for updates.

  • Letters will be given to homeowners/renters with information about Specialty Asphalt crack sealing work for July 24th and 25th
  • Homeowners who have been inconsistent with monthly payments for dues will be sent a final warning notice and then will be sent to collections if payment or communication does not occur
New Business:
  • Homeowner requested financial assistance from The Orchards HOA for the purchase of topsoil to fill drainage ditch near address 126 on the corner of Pine crest and Meadow Glen. Homeowner received quotes for 112 yds of topsoil at $20/yd and is asking for $600 and permission to use the overflow parking area for a 48-hour window in August to keep the topsoil while they work. The board agreed the work needed to be done to improve that area of the neighborhood and the homeowner will be doing all of the labor to lower costs. The motion to approve funds for the purchase of the topsoil to fill the drainage ditch was approved by Rachel, seconded by Tom.
  • Yard of the Month

    June = 3013 Silverthorn
    July = 3110 Thistle Creek
  • The Board is still making efforts to get the junk car on Silverthorn removed but there are complications with ownership of the car.
Motion to adjourn meeting by Tom, seconded by Philip.
